Glitterbox moved to its new home of Sunday night in Hï Ibiza but it was very much as you were as the glamorous party picked up where it left off last summer; with a packed dancefloor and electric atmosphere. Opening party responsibilities fell on Masters At Work, Dimitri From Paris, Purple Disco Machine, Simon Dunmore, Melvo Baptiste, Melon Bomb and DJ Pippi, with a special live performance from Barbara Tucker.
What started life as a colourful alternative to the formulaic Ibiza parties, where darkness and repetitive beats ruled, Glitterbox has become a phenomenon that has not only found its place on the clubbing capital but is making waves across the clubbing world. The blend of genuine industry legends with exciting new talent, creating a soundtrack that incorporates disco and house with a sprinkling of classics has captured the imagination of more than one clubbing generation. A Glitterbox party embraces the true essence of dance music, offering an inclusive space where people of all ages and from all backgrounds come together and share a common dancefloor experience.
Hï Ibiza was packed for the first Glitterbox of 2019, eager clubbers from all over the world filled the Theatre floor, determined to play their part in the opening. The Glitterbox dancers and performers were bursting with swagger as usual, dominating the stage, adding a flambouyant element to proceedings as the opening party built momentum. Masters At Work together behind an Ibiza DJ booth is something to behold, the duo effortlessly interacted throughout their set, weaving a combined journey packed with soul, thumping basslines and percussion that demanded we move our feet, not that anyone needed to be told!
Dimitri From Paris has been a champion of the modern disco sound for as long as we can remember and he delivered a masterclass in programming, easing from his own disco edits to house classics and some chunky new house bangers, much to the delight of all and sundry. To say that the man behind Glitterbox and Defected, Simon Dunmore, has an ear for a tune is like saying Messi is a half decent footballer! The head honcho delved deep into his extensive music collection to deliver some amazing opening night nuggets in what was a night to remember! Barbara Tucker offered a lung bursting performance; the voice of numerous house classics controlled the capacity crowd with ease as she took the party to another level.
The Wild Corner was, as always, going off, courtesy of Melon Bomb and DJ Pippi. Homegrown talent that has been at the centre of some of the biggest Ibiza parties in recent years, the vibe was electric from start to finish and offered the perfect foil for the main room, generating an intimate party atmosphere that’s hard to leave! It was yet another amazing gathering from the Glitterbox crew and one that sets a high bar for the rest of the season.
