Sunday night saw the return of Solomun + One to Pacha Ibiza and it was very much business as usual as DJ Koze joined the host in the booth for the first of many roadblock parties this summer. Clearly Ibiza has been missing these monumental battles between two heavyweight artists, as it took a sabbatical during the winter months, the venue was packed from early doors and the atmosphere vibrant and relentless until the final beat dropped. Ibiza 2019 is here and not a memont too soon!
The ‘Plus One’ concept, which shuns the multi DJ line-up that is so popular on the clubbing capital not only gives each DJ the chance to really exercise those creative muscles but also pits each spinner against each other for a dramatic back to back finale. It has been a hugely popular addition to the island and become one of Pacha’s biggest parties, which is saying something when you look at the weekly summer schedule. Solomun, of course, has become one of the biggest attractions on the global stage, his ability to take the crowd on a musical journey has seen him emerge as one of the real heavy hitters internationally.
On the island, Solomun is an Ibiza favourite; from his early Diynamic days in Sankeys to guest appearances alongside Sven Väth in Cocoon and those crazy Monday’s in DC10 for Circoloco, he never fails to capture the imagination of those dancing in front of him. His passion for what he does comes across when he plays, even if he is not the most animated behind the decks. He was the one that moved the booth to the dancefloor when he launched his party, something that inspired the club makeover a few years later, when the elevated booth was replaced and the crowd became a much more integral part of the vibe.
Sunday night saw a packed Pacha as DJ Koze renewed his love affair with Ibiza and combined perfectly with Solomun to deliver the perfect opening salvo. There can be extra pressure on those with the responsibility of raising the curtain on the season; a winter of expectation has seen the crowd bursting to get on that famous floor but, if that was the case, there was no opening nerves for this duo. Between them they took the floor and surrounding areas on a magical tour through the chunkiest house and techno, resulting in numerous hands-in-the-air spontaneity, and more than a few goosbump moments. IT’s was the perfect start to a summer that promises so much at this early stage. Solomun returns next week with Tijana T.
